Fichter Farms got a free lunch from KFC as part of Grain Rush this year.

Grain Rush is back in the southeast, with farmers getting lunchtime meals from KFC over the next few weeks, thanks to sponsors such as NextAcre Real Estate. The very first meal went out to Fichter Farms, which operates just outside of Bienfait.

Todd Fichter says that the farm is just about ready to switch over crops at this time.

"Just about done with wheat today. Tomorrow will be our last day of wheat, and then on to canola."

So far, the harvest has gone well for the Fichters, as Todd says that the recent rains seemed to have missed their quarters, allowing them to keep on harvesting.

While the harvest hasn't been particularly stressful, some of the latest movements in the agricultural markets, such as China's tariffs on canola, are causing some worries on the farm.

"For sure it does," said Fichter, "Everything, peas, wheat, everything, prices seem to be dropping, but hopefully they come back."

With just a couple of weeks left until the harvest is hopefully wrapped up, Fichter says he hopes the best for all the other farmers in the field finishing up harvest.

"Good luck and hope everything goes well."

We'll continue to deliver meals to farms over the next few weeks as Grain Rush continues across the southeast.
