The Town of Strathmore and the local fire department were thanked for their help in battling the Redwater wildfire earlier this year.

Four members of the Strathmore fire department were up north fighting the blaze in May, with Sturgeon County sending the town a letter of thanks in July.

The letter was read out at the Wednesday (Sept. 3) council meeting.

"Your swift response and generous contribution of resources, personnel, and expertise were critical in helping us contain the fire and protect our community," wrote Allana Hnatiw, mayor of Sturgeon County. "Their professionalism and dedication were instrumental in safeguarding lives, property, and our cherished natural environment."

Strathmore was just one of over 20 municipalities that came to Sturgeon County's aid as the wildfire threatened nearby communities.

The Strathmore firefighters arrived at the blaze with a Type 6 engine and a sprinkler protection trailer, spending eight days supporting the communities of Boyle and Redwater.
