The Servus Credit Union's High River Half-marathon, 10k, 5k and kids run event in George Lane Park went off without a hitch on Saturday.

It's also the 25th anniversary of the run and walk held in support of Foothills Advocacy in Motion, also known as FAIM.

Hundreds of runners came out to High River and were greeted with warm weather, music, pancakes and smiles.

The run is a fan favourite for runners as it's one of the rare half marathons that's run on a flat course.

"Well, it is nice and flat, except this year we do have a hill because of the construction on 12th Avenue, we get to run Tower Hill on 8th Avenue. So, they finally, for the first time ever, we get to have people actually have to do a little hill."

Race chair Ron Abramson, who organizes it every year with FAIM, was extremely happy with the turnout.

"We're very thrilled. We were very stressed earlier this week with the smoke in town and with all the construction in town, but the weather turned out to be perfect, not too hot, great day, and no smoke, so we're thrilled."

The event kicked off at 9 a.m. with the half-marathon, followed by the kids' race around George Lane Park at 9:30, with the 10k and 5k following.

A pancake breakfast and a morning stretch warmed everyone up, as barely a mosquito could be found with the slightly chilly weather kickstarting the day.

"We couldn't do this without the volunteers. Certainly, we're doing this for FAIM, obviously, but we couldn't do it without all the volunteers. We need upwards of over 70 volunteers to run this race. And if we didn't have those people, this just would never come to be."

Abramson is almost excited about next year's run, but wrapped it up by saying he's going to relax for the next month before preparing for next year.

He also expressed his gratitude towards FAIM and all the sponsors that helped out.
