Last week, Airdrie council heard the final Inspire report as opening day is just around the corner.
Michelle Lock, director of community services with the City of Airdrie, explained that the highlight of the report is that the project is under budget.
"When we were going to the competitive marketplace, which was a little over three years ago, the cost escalation on construction projects was trending significantly higher. Since then, those costs levelled out, and we were able to take advantage of that during the tendering process."
According to the report, the project was delivered on schedule and is currently tracking $4.5 million under budget, meaning the project would cost a total of $60.5 million.

"It's always exciting when, as a municipal government, you can offer something to the community. This is really exciting in that this council wanted to create a space that included the library, but several other spaces for the community to use, and a park in the back that could connect to Nose Creek and really be a gateway to the downtown."
The report also states that the project has remained true to its guiding principles:
- It reflects the City of Airdrie’s vision of a vibrant, caring, and sustainable community.
- It is innovative and adaptable, ready to serve a growing and diverse population.
- It is inclusive, accessible, and welcoming.
- It contributes meaningfully to the social and physical fabric of the city.
"It is exciting all of the opportunities the community will have to use this building in ways that have been desired by the community for a number of years."

"On behalf of the entire organization, I'm just very grateful to Collier's project leaders, Canna, the design team of GGA, and the numerous municipal employees who were working tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure that this is a facility that will serve as a legacy in the community for years to come."
Lock concluded by saying following a book parade down Main Street on September 24, Inspire will be ready for Airdronians on September 25.
