The third-ever Airdrie Back-to-School Clothing Drive and Swap took place Saturday during AirdrieFEST at the Airdrie Lutheran Church.
Cat Tyler, a local real estate agent and organizer of the fundraiser, hosts the event alongside David Dempsey, another real estate agent in Airdrie.
Tyler explained to DiscoverAirdrie that the point of the event is for Airdronians to donate clothes they no longer wear or fit, while picking out new clothes at no cost.
"We started doing it three years ago, as a community initiative, so children and parents and teens could just take advantage of it to make back-to-school shopping a little easier and more affordable."
She explained the event saw around 200 visitors walk through the doors.
"Lots of people browsed the clothing donations and quite a few took bags of clothes as well, which is great."
Tyler explained she was happy people were able to take advantage of the event and save themselves some money.
"It's gratifying to be able to help people. This is the kind of event that I feel like Airdrie needs, because there are so many families here."
With hopes of doing the event again next year, she hopes even more people learn about the event and participate in it next year.
