The first-ever Best Buddies Friendship Walk in Southern Manitoba took place this past weekend in Portage la Prairie.

Tara-Marie Hall was one of the organizers, and says the turnout was great.

"We had a really good crowd. It was a nice distance, and everybody had fun. We had the juggler with us, and everybody was cheering other people on, especially at the finish line. So, it was a big team effort."

Hall is the Logistics Chair for Best Buddies Canada, and notes that the event holds a special significance to her. She says it's good to see the work pay off in this way.

"It feels really good, especially when I have a son who has autism. It just absolutely warms my heart."

Hall emphasizes that this walk will not be the end of her work for those with intellectual disabilities, and that she hopes to continue this event in the future.

"I would be truly honoured to organize another walk for Portage la Prairie. This cause is very close to my heart, and one that I am deeply committed to. I would do anything to support my son Austin and the special-needs community. For me, it doesn’t feel like hard work when it’s something I am both passionate about and dedicated to."
