A Community-Wide Food Drive is hitting Strathmore this Saturday (Sept. 13).

This will be the third year that the Wheatland County Food Bank will host the event.

Lynette Aschenbrenner is the executive director of the food bank, and she explained why the event is important.

"Our numbers have increased over the years since I've been with the Food Bank. It has been an unbelievable increase. Having all this extra food doesn't just serve our clients. It serves the whole community."

The Food Bank has partnered with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to help bring the food drive this year.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints helps local food banks across Southern Alberta with these types of events.

Throughout the week, residents will get a door tag delivered to them. They can put food out using the door tag, which will be picked up on Saturday.

"We are going to be on location at the Strathmore Municipal Office. If you didn't get a door tag for some reason, or if you forgot to put your food out, or you just wanted to come down and say hi, we will be there from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. to take donations," explained Aschenbrenner.

The Food Bank is currently looking for several items, including:

  • Canned Soup.
  • Canned Fruit.
  • Jam.
  • Juice.
  • Puddings.
  • And much more.
