What started as a regular training exercise for Portage la Prairie RCMP officers turned into a real-life arrest last week.
On the evening of September 2, 2025, around 7:30 p.m., officers were conducting training in the area of 10th Street NE and Lorne Avenue when one of them noticed a man and woman riding bicycles nearby.
Police say the man, a 47-year-old from Portage, was already known to them and was under release conditions, including a no-contact order with the woman he was with.
Officers followed up and arrested the man a short time later at 6th Street E and Saskatchewan Avenue.
He is now facing charges for disobeying a court order and failing to comply with the conditions of his release.
Police say he was held in custody and remained there until his court appearance.
The next day, on September 3rd, Portage la Prairie RCMP arrested and charged a 44-year-old woman following a shoplifting incident.
Police say they were called to a business on Saskatchewan Avenue East around 4:15 p.m. after reports of a known shoplifter who had been banned from the store but was seen inside.
According to the RCMP, the woman filled a bag with items and left the store without paying. Officers began a search and later located her in a taxi at a residence on 19th Street NW.
She was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000, trespassing, and possession of property obtained by crime valued at less than $5,000.
