Volleyball is one of several high school sports beginning their season alongside the school year. A joint boys and girls tournament took place in Wilkie last weekend, the McLurg Sr. SuperVolley, and now another tournament in Kerrobert this weekend will keep a busy start to the early season going.
Starting with what was the season opener for most teams in Wilkie, over 60 games were played across the weekend of volleyball in the local rink. The 10-team girls side saw Maymont winning gold against Plenty who took home silver, Medstead winning bronze after a three set game against Kerrobert. The 9-team boys draw ended up with the host Wilkie Broncs winning gold, Medstead earning silver and Maidstone winning bronze.
Coach of the Kerrobert Rebels, Candice Kraft, commented on the fourth place finish through the school's social media, saying it was a great weekend for the team with lots of growth and potential shown. While they didn't medal, they will be able to take some momentum from the final set loss into their home tournament running this weekend Friday, September 12 and Saturday, September 13.
