Two men are facing a list of firearm-related charges after an incident on Long Plain First Nation earlier this week.

On Sept. 3, around 3:45 p.m., Manitoba First Nations Police were called after reports that two males had damaged the front window of a home with a shotgun.

Police say an adult man and a youth showed up at the house and briefly confronted the people inside. The adult pointed a sawed-off shotgun at the front door before the pair left. No shots were fired, but the suspects smashed a window on their way out.

With help from a police dog, officers tracked the adult suspect to a home on Split Rock Trail. He ran out the back but was arrested. Another man, not connected to the first incident, also ran from the house and was taken into custody. Police say he had a sawed-off .22 rifle and ammunition. A loaded sawed-off shotgun was also found inside the home.

Police have charged 25-year-old Preston Perswain with multiple offences, including pointing a firearm, careless use of a firearm, and possessing weapons while under a court order. He remains in custody.

Twenty-four-year-old Nathan Scott is also in custody and facing several charges, including reckless discharge of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, and possession of a firearm with a tampered serial number.

The youth who was at the house has not been found.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the MFNPS Long Plain detachment at 204-252-4488, or call the anonymous tips line at 1-833-978-0048, which is monitored around the clock.
