Several students in nearby communities, including Carstairs and Didsbury, recently earned free Chromebooks.
According to Chinook's Edge School Division, 168 Chinook’s Edge students earned themselves a Chromebook over the summer.
"The students participated in the Jumpstart program. Jumpstart provides a foundation in the Google operating environment and is geared to high school students."
The school division shared that students who earn at least six credits in the program receive a Chromebook.

"Over the past five years, since Jumpstart began, the number of students has steadily increased."
Along with the distribution of 168 Chromebooks, students earned a total of 1,275 credits through Jumpstart this year.
"This represents an 18 per cent increase compared to last year. In the summer of 2024, 142 students earned Chromebooks, and cumulatively, students earned a total of 1077 credits."
The school division has 12 schools in neighbouring communities, including Olds, Mountain View County, Didsbury and Carstairs. Chinook's Edge has a total of 11,000 students across 40 Central Alberta schools.
