Earlier this month, Hockey Saskatchewan shined the spotlight on the historic 1983-84 Wilkie Outlaws senior hockey team. Putting in one of the most unforgettable seasons of the 1980s, the Outlaws were inducted into the Ted Knight Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame over 30 years later in 2017 and recently came back to light as the latest subject of the Hockey Saskatchewan "Inductee of the Month".

The 83-84 season saw the Outlaws go undefeated in the Wild Goose Hockey League's eighteen-game regular season, earning a finals sweep over the Lloydminster Border Kings to stay perfect. Their winning ways continued into provincials with series victories over Shellbrook, Unity, and Biggar to claim the north provincial title, and then the perfect season ended with a pair of big wins against Langenburg to hoist the trophy.

Of the nineteen players on the roster, 17 of them played minor hockey in the Wilkie area. A third of the roster was taken up by the last name Cey—Gerry, Lester, Jamie, Roger, Harold and team captain Joe—a tradition that continues today with Rick and Rob Cey, and likely more in the pipeline.

For the hall of fame video Hockey Saskatchewan managed to speak with three of the team alumni — Lester Cey, Dale Johnson, and Bill Cey. Watch the video below to hear from the Outlaws trio and scroll below the video to check out the full roster from the 1983-84 season.
