Manitoba government announces improvements to more than 30 recreational trails across province

Media Release - Sept 11, 2025

Manitobans will see improvements to more than 30 recreational trails across the province thanks to more than $592,000 in funding from the Manitoba government and Trails Manitoba, Environment and Climate Change Minister Mike Moyes announced today.

“Trails provide important opportunities for Manitobans to spend time outdoors and enjoy nature all year long,” said Moyes. “This funding will help improve a number of walking, biking, skiing, all-terrain vehicle and snowmobile trails across the province and ensure Manitobans can continue to explore the great outdoors for many years to come.”

The funding comes from the Manitoba government’s Off-Road Vehicle Land and Trail Rehabilitation Grant program and the 2025 Trails Manitoba grant program, the minister noted.

A total of $382,000 through the Off-Road Vehicle Land and Trail Rehabilitation Grant will fund 11 organizations and rural municipalities including:

  • Interlake Off Road Club Corporation, ATV trail rehabilitation, $50,000;
  • North Mountain Riders Inc., installation of creek crossing pads to prevent environmental degradation in Porcupine Provincial Forest, $50,000;
  • Rossburn Subdivision Trail Association, walking trail rehabilitation in the Erickson area, $5,230;
  • Eastman ATV Inc., ATV trail rehabilitation in Sandilands Provincial Forest, $50,000;
  • Town of Morris, restoration of riverside walking trails, $16,500;
  • Grahamdale Community Development Corporation, rehabilitation and improvements to trail in Steep Rock Beach Park, $50,000;
  • Town of Teulon, repair and stabilize walking trail and add signage, $50,000;
  • Rural Municipality of Thompson, repair walking trail and add signage in the community of Miami, $45,760;
  • Woodridge ATV Sandhogs Inc., rehabilitate multi-use trails in Sandilands Provincial Forest, $16,500;
  • St. Malo and District Wildlife Association, installation of signage to deter ORV damage within St. Malo Wildlife Management Area, $5,740; and
  • Log Cabin Riders Inc., snowmobile trail rehabilitation in central Manitoba, $42,225.

“The Woodridge Sandhogs are very grateful for being one of the recipients of the Trail Rehabilitation Grant program as these additional funds this year will help us upgrade several troublesome locations we have on the trail system,” said Gary Hora, club president, Woodridge Sandhogs. “As our trail system is multi-use, other user groups will enjoy the trails even more once we complete our projects. We again are thankful for this program and are looking forward to working with our partners to create and maintain a safe and enjoyable trail system for all to use.”

The 2025 Trails Manitoba grant program will support the development and enhancement of trails across the province, with 22 organizations receiving nearly $210,000 in funding.

“Our trails are a defining feature of Manitoba’s natural and cultural landscape,” said Tim Coffin, executive director, Trails Manitoba. “They bring people together, support healthy lifestyles and create meaningful connections between communities and the land. We’re proud to work alongside local partners and the Manitoba government to grow and protect this vital network.”

The Off-Road Vehicle Land and Trail Rehabilitation Grant is supported through an annual fee for registered off-road vehicles (ORVs), collected by Manitoba Public Insurance at the time of annual registration. The fee does not apply to ORVs exempt from registration, such as those used solely on the owner’s property or those owned and operated in remote communities. All revenues from the fee support ORV trail maintenance and development, safety education and training programs, and rehabilitation of public lands impacted by ORV use.

The Trails Manitoba grant program annually supports new recreational trail opportunities, improves existing trails through enhancements, and provides funding for continued trail maintenance.
