A serious two-vehicle crash near Gimli on Wednesday afternoon has left one driver in hospital and another shaken but uninjured.

On September 10, around 2:50 p.m., Gimli RCMP were called to the intersection of Highway 8 and Highway 229 after an SUV and a semi-truck collided.

According to the RCMP, the SUV had been seen earlier driving erratically north on Highway 9 in the RM of St. Andrews. Less than an hour later, that same SUV was involved in the crash.

Police say the vehicle failed to stop at the mandatory stop sign at Highway 229 and drove directly into the path of a southbound semi-truck.

The impact caused the semi to tip over into the west ditch, while the SUV came to rest in the middle of the northbound lane of Highway 8.

The 31-year-old driver of the SUV, from The Pas, was rushed to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while the driver of the semi-truck escaped without injury.

Gimli RCMP and a forensic collision reconstruction team continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
