With Alberta teachers set to go on strike Oct. 6 if no deal is reached, school divisions across the province are preparing for the possibility.

Both Foothills-area divisions, the Foothills School Division (FSD) and Christ the Redeemer Catholic Schools (CTR), have posted responses on their websites.

FSD is advising parents to prepare in case strike action occurs, which could include the closure of schools.

"We understand that this news is concerning," reads the update from FSD Superintendent Chris Fuzessy. "We are committed to updating families and our team members as soon as the status of negotiations changes, or additional information becomes available."

The release also notes that the Teachers Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA) could enact a lockout of the Alberta Teachers' Association (ATA) on behalf of the province.

The division said it will email families with updates and post new information on its website.

CTR’s release states that "the ATA did not clarify the nature of the potential strike," and that TEBA has not received legal strike notice.

Both divisions said they will continue operating as usual unless directed otherwise.
