Heavy rainfall that hit southern Manitoba Thursday evening has led to the temporary closure of an animal rescue in Steinbach.
Steinbach & Area Animal Rescue took to Facebook early Friday morning to let the community know that their basement had flooded.
"The rescue basement has flooded again!! If anyone has pumps that can help, please reach out," said the rescue in a post on social media.
According to SAAR, as daylight arrives, they have determined that the flooding this time around is worse than last time.
"We are devastated that this has happened again, almost a year to the week since the last time," said SAAR in a post on Facebook. "We are currently working on pumping out the water and getting all of the cats out. We are devastated and sad, and are at a loss."
They say they have temporary placements for all of their cats, but anyone can foster; they are encouraged to reach out.
The last time the basement of the rescue flooded was in September 2024, leading to the loss of essential food supplies and valuable donations.
It took about a month for the rescue to reopen.
At this time, it is unclear as to what exactly has been lost due to last night's storm. As for now, the Steinbach & Area Animal Rescue will be closed until further notice.
