The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are mourning the loss of their former assistant general manager and director of personnel.
Ted Goveia, who spent 11 years with the Blue Bombers before becoming the general Manager of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Dec. 5, 2024, passed away this week following a months-long battle with esophageal cancer.
"The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are deeply saddened by the passing of former assistant general manager and director of personnel, Ted Goveia, after his brave battle with cancer," said Wade Miller, president and CEO of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, in a statement on social media. "Ted's passion for the game, his sharp eye for talent and his unwavering dedication to building championship teams helped shape the success of our organization."
During his time with the Bombers, Goveia won two Grey Cup titles in 2019 and 2021.
"We are forever grateful for the years we shared with Ted and for the legacy he leaves behind," said Miller. "Our hearts are with his family, friends and everyone across the CFL who were fortunate enough to know him.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Hamilton Tiger-Cats will face off against each other tonight in Hamilton in what they are calling the 'Team Ted' game.
Goveia was 55.
