The RCMP officer injured in a collision with a suspect vehicle during last week’s mass stabbing in Hollow Water First Nation has released a statement thanking first responders, hospital staff and community members for their support.
In a post shared on the Manitoba RCMP’s Facebook page, Corporal Brianne Bartmanovich expressed gratitude to those who assisted her after the crash and to those who have sent messages during her recovery.
“Thank you to everyone who has reached out and sent kind messages for my recovery. It means so much to me and to my family,” Bartmanovich said. “To my fellow RCMP officers and to all the emergency medical personnel who helped me immediately after the collision, I am sincerely and forever grateful for the critical care you provided.”
Bartmanovich was involved in the police response to the Sept. 4 mass stabbing in Hollow Water First Nation, which left one woman and the suspect dead, and sent six others to hospital.
She said she is “incredibly thankful” to the staff at Winnipeg’s Health Sciences Centre for the care she received, adding she is recovering well.
“As an officer working in the Powerview Detachment, I have been proud to serve the community of Hollow Water First Nation for seven years,” she said. “My thoughts are with the victims of this tragedy and with all who are grieving the loss of such a young woman.”
Bartmanovich noted the incident “will stay with me forever” but said she hopes the community can find a way to heal.
RCMP said Bartmanovich has requested privacy during her recovery and will not be granting interviews.
