Temporary housing units will be available this fall for residents displaced from Denare Beach, as municipal leaders and provincial officials outline plans to support the community through the winter months.
Last week, officials from the Village of Denare Beach, the Town of Creighton, and the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency’s Recovery Task Team (RTT) shared details of the plan, which calls for up to 35 modular homes to be placed in Creighton and Denare Beach. The units will allow displaced individuals and families to remain close to their community while accessing local services and supports during recovery efforts.
The modular homes are expected to be ready for occupancy beginning in October.
“Working together to assist residents in returning to their permanent homes remains a top priority,” Denare Beach Mayor Carl Lentowicz said, noting the support from Creighton and the Recovery Task Team.
“The Town of Creighton is pleased to help the residents of Denare Beach in their time of need,” said Creighton Mayor Bruce Fidler. “It is very important to us to support temporary housing for displaced individuals and families as they work to rebuild and recover.”
Corrections, Policing and Public Safety Minister Tim McLeod said the recent community information session allowed residents to learn more about the temporary housing plan. The RTT, led by the SPSA, includes representatives from the Ministries of Government Relations, Social Services, Environment, and Crown Investment Corporations.
