Fiske teen claims first junior title at Dakota Buttar Invitational in Kindersley
Seventeen-year-old Jayce Rieger of Fiske, Sask., won the first-ever junior bull riding title at the Dakota Buttar Invitational in Kindersley. A student of champion Dakota Buttar, Rieger rode to victory in front of a hometown crowd and says the experience was “pretty cool.” Event manager Pete Gebraad called it a special moment, noting Rieger’s promise as a rising talent in the sport.
Kindersley court sees firearms and threat charges, multiple case adjournments
A southwest Kerrobert farmer pleaded guilty in Kindersley Court to attempting to possess a prohibited device under the Saskatchewan Firearms Act. He tried to buy a rifle suppressor, which was intercepted by the RCMP, and was sentenced under the Firearms Act’s alternative program, requiring him to retake the Canadian Firearms Safety Course and pay $500 to the Saskatoon Wildlife Federation.
"Queen" captured: Recapping the events in Richmound
Richmound, Sask., became the focus of provincial attention after RCMP carried out a major raid on September 3, arresting Romana Didulo and 16 others linked to her “Kingdom of Canada” group. The sovereign citizen followers had moved into the former Richmound School in 2023, causing ongoing tensions with residents and officials, including harassment, threats, and property disputes. Incidents over the years included assaults, public protests, and environmental damage to village property. The arrests, livestreamed by Didulo, mark the culmination of nearly two years of conflict, with authorities now investigating inside the building while residents hope life can return to normal.
Kindersley spins PBR weekend into major win for local hospital
The Dakota Buttar Invitational in Kindersley raised over $76,500 for the Kindersley Health and Wellness Foundation to buy a new anesthetic machine for the local hospital. Event organizers, sponsors, and community groups were recognized for their contributions, and hospital staff thanked residents for their support. The fundraiser will remain open for another week.
Lloydminster RCMP arrest man found passed out behind the wheel, uncover firearms and drugs
A 32-year-old man from the RM of Wilton faces 16 charges after Lloydminster RCMP seized drugs, firearms, and weapons during a traffic stop on Sept. 3. Police found fentanyl, methamphetamine, a loaded .45- and .22-calibre handgun, brass knuckles, and bear spray in his vehicle. Hillier was arrested and remanded into custody, with a court appearance set for Sept. 8. RCMP emphasized the seizure prevented dangerous drugs and firearms from reaching the community.
