Moose Jaw-Lake Centre-Lanigan Member of Parliament Fraser Tolmie had this to say regarding Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre’s statements on the Temporary Foreign Worker program:

“In this riding, agricultural producers, processors, and other businesses rely on seasonal temporary labour to do what they do best. This type of work is why the Temporary Foreign Worker program was created in the first place, and in my view, it is working well.”

“I understand the Temporary Foreign Worker program is important to many businesses in this riding, and in the City of Moose Jaw. At the same time, especially in other regions in Canada, there has been abuse of this program by businesses seeking to undercut Canadian workers and their wages, and it has been used as an illegitimate pathway to permanent residency by some migrants”

“It’s clear that after over 10 years of Liberal governments, Canada’s immigration system desperately needs reform. That’s why we’re calling for immediate reform of the Temporary Foreign Worker program to protect businesses who use it the way it was intended, while eliminating abuse of the system as much as possible.”
