Overnight fire in Elmwood displaces residents

An early morning fire in Elmwood has left several people displaced. 

The blaze broke out shortly after 2 a.m. in a mixed-use commercial and residential structure in the 2002 block of Watt Street. 

Flames and smoke were coming from the building when crews arrived. Firefighters were able to enter the building and fight the fire from inside. 

The fire was declared under control just after 3 a.m.

Everyone in the building was able to escape before crews arrived. Two people were assessed at the scene but did not require a hospital trip.

The city's Emergency Social Services team also responded to the scene to help displaced residents find temporary housing. 

There is no word on what caused the fire. The investigation is ongoing.
