It's that time of year when communities across Southeast Saskatchewan start gearing up for their annual fowl suppers, and St. Peter's Lutheran Church is ready to serve up a feast.
Pastor Hydorn says the event is set for Sunday, November 2nd, with two seatings, the first from 4 to 5:15 and the second from 5:15 to 6:30. "There will be turkey, potatoes," he shared, "and I know there are going to be cabbage rolls because some ladies are already making them. It's going to be all you can eat. It's going to be a wonderful time."
He adds that St. Peter's supper has a long-standing reputation. "Traditionally, we have the best one in town or the area. We're going to keep that attitude going."
The event is also a fundraiser for the congregation. "Some of it goes to missions, some of it goes to various groups in the congregation to help them in their efforts. But it all comes through the church every week. And thank goodness and thank God for the generosity of the people of Estevan and the surrounding area. We've always done quite well, and we want to appreciate you for that."
For those wanting to attend, sign-up is preferred, though payment at the door is possible. "You can call one of the ladies, Margaret Mantai, at 306-421-9691, or call the church office at 306-634-2024. We’ll take cash, check, or online transfer, and then you can just walk right in and enjoy the food."
Guests can dine in or take their meals home. "Last year, there were a couple of families who took home about 10 or 12 containers each. They were able to enjoy the food at home," Pastor Hydorn said, noting that dessert would be included as well.
The St. Peter's Lutheran Church Fowl Supper promises good food and community spirit for everyone on November 2nd.
