Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for several rural municipalities in southeastern Manitoba, including Coldwell (Lundar, Clarkleigh), St. Laurent (Oak Point), Woodlands (Warren, Lake Francis), Rosser (Meadows), and West Interlake (Eriksdale, Ashern).

The watch is in effect this afternoon and evening, as conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that could produce strong wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rain. Thunderstorms are expected to develop early this afternoon, with some potentially becoming severe. Localized downpours, hail, and strong winds may accompany these storms.

Environment Canada urges residents to take safety precautions. “When thunder roars, go indoors! Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year,” the agency reminds the public.

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when conditions are favourable for storms capable of producing damaging hail, wind, or rain. Residents are encouraged to continue monitoring alerts and forecasts.

To report severe weather, email MBstorm@ec.gc.ca or call 1-800-239-0484.
