Falling leaves and pumpkin spiced coffee means that autumn is almost here. Weyburn Tourism is already preparing for fall festivities, as they seek vendors for this year's Pumpkin Lane.
Executive Director with Weyburn Tourism, Monica Osborn, says this year marks the fourth annual event, in partnership with Prairie Sky Co-op. It involves walking the Red Coat Trail lit by pumpkins carved by the community and trick-or-treating from local businesses or organizations along the way.
“We have plans to have a barbecue there that will be done by the Weyburn Theatre Group. So come prepared, come hungry. We will have pumpkins available for people that want to participate in pumpkin carving and lighting up our trails. The event will be taking place over by the dog park once again, the same location as it has been the previous three years. We are really looking forward to seeing all of the costumes.”
Osborn explains that the event was born of an effort to highlight the unique areas featured around the city. River Park Sparkes, an event hosted around Christmastime, highlights river park, while Pumpkin Lane was created to showcase Weyburn’s expansive trail system.
“People come enjoy the pumpkins all around the trail system, and they're lit up so that you can enjoy all of them."
The event has been a smashing success in the past, as Osborn notes they saw a great turnout last year.
“Last year was one of our largest attendances. We had about 1,200 people show up. About 600 of them plus were children. We really appreciate the support that our local community provides to us, and it's just a great event, and we can only just hope for really good weather.”
Any businesses, organizations, or individuals handing out candy or other swag, hosting an activity, or putting on a display will have the opportunity to set up along the trail. Anyone who signs up before this Friday, September 19th and pays $30 will have their business name featured on 250 trick-or-treat bags handed out at the event.
