An act of kindness has restored one Nanton resident’s faith in humanity.

While running errands in Okotoks, Christina Muldoon accidentally dropped $120 in cash without noticing.

She had planned to use the cash to get gas, groceries, and pay a few bills.

However, when she got to Nanton, the cash wasn’t in her bag.

“I immediately knew where it had fallen out: Safeway in D’Arcy Crossing,” she said. “I started crying. I was really frustrated with myself because I thought I was going to do very important things with that money, and I just felt awful.”

Muldoon’s mother convinced her to call Safeway and ask if someone had returned the lost cash.

“My mom kept saying, 'Call Safeway and ask if anyone turned it in. People are better than you think.’”

When she called, she was told that Blake Bird, a Safeway employee, had found the cash and returned it to the customer service desk.

“We are all feeling an economic pinch these days, which is why I was certain my money was long gone, but it was so wonderful to find out that someone was honest and turned it in,” Muldoon said.

The next day, when Muldoon went to collect the cash, she met Bird and thanked him for his kindness and honesty.

“I thanked him over and over again, " she said, "The world needs more honest, and kind people like him."

Muldoon was extremely appreciative of not only Bird but also everyone at Safeway who helped her.

“They held it for me; they were very helpful with that. I was very happy and very impressed,” she said. “That's a lot of money to lose, but a lot of money to get back. So, just a very big thank you to them.”
