A southwest man has begun a substantial jail sentence after his sentencing this past summer on charges of sexual interference and provoking fear in a justice system participant.

Julian Lavallee pleaded guilty and was sentenced by Judge O'Hanlon on the pair of charges in Swift Current Provincial Court on June 4.

The 39-year-old received a three-year jail sentence on one count and a 60-day sentence to be served consecutively on the second count.

He was also ordered to comply with the Sex Offenders Information Registration Act for 20 years, not to be anywhere where children could reasonably be for three years, and to provide a DNA sample.

Crown prosecutor, Gregory Lee, shared that the accused was credited with 326 days in remand time, which was applied to the sentence for a total of just under two years left to serve.

He initially faced a total of six charges, four of which were later stayed, including uttering threats and failure to comply with a no-contact undertaking.

On October 22, 2023, Lavallee attended the then 14-year-old victim's family residence. Later, getting the victim alone, making advances, including unwanted touching, and committing the offence for which he was convicted.

Lavallee returned to the victim's residence on February 28, 2024, despite being ordered to comply with a no-contact undertaking, and reportedly threatened the victim's family.

The victim's father gave a statement to Swift Current Online saying, "My [child] wants people to know that when bad things happen, there is always a light ahead, to never give up, and to be strong."

Due to a publication ban, further information about the victim and the incidents is not available.
