The Manitoba government is investing nearly $200 million in school capital projects for the 2025-26 fiscal year.

Education and Early Childhood Learning Minister Tracy Schmidt announced the funding on Monday, saying the goal is to ensure students across the province have access to safe, modern, and supportive learning environments.

"Every student deserves to learn in a space that is safe, well-maintained and designed to support their success," said Schmidt. "From new school builds to critical repairs, these projects are designed to meet the evolving needs of communities across the province — rural, urban and northern alike.”

The funding will cover six major categories: HVAC upgrades, roofing replacements, accessibility improvements, structural repairs, additions and renovations, and new school builds.

$23 million will go towards improving heating and ventilation systems, $22 million for roof replacements and structural improvements, $59 million for school additions, including modular classrooms, gym upgrades and school renovations and $79 million to start and continue construction on eight schools across Manitoba.

École Precieux-Sang will receive a heating and unit ventilator replacement, while R.B. Russell Vocational School will see a roof replacement and structural upgrade.

Other schools to benefit from the funds include École Saint-Jean-Baptiste, with a roof replacement, Lincoln Middle School receiving an elevator, ramp and lift, Maryland Park School with a classroom addition and Rosenort School with a gym envelope replacement.

"This is about more than bricks and mortar," said Schmidt. "Whether it’s a new classroom, a repaired roof, or an accessible elevator, every upgrade makes a difference."
