Drivers recorded at more than 100 km/h were among 69 tickets issued since the launch of a joint enforcement operation in Airdrie, city officials said Tuesday.
The tickets and 21 warnings covered speeding, noise and equipment violations. Sixteen of the offences were tied to vehicle noise, including sound-meter readings.
Notable infractions included a driver recorded at 100 km/h on 8 Street, another at 101 km/h on Yankee Valley Boulevard and one at 97 km/h on 40th Avenue.
According to the City of Airdrie’s website, the residential area speed limit is 30 km/h, while main roads such as Yankee Valley Boulevard, Veterans Boulevard, 8 Street and 24 Street are 60 km/h.
The city said patrols have been focused on 40th Avenue, 8 Street, Yankee Valley Boulevard, Kings Heights Drive and East Lake Boulevard.
Officials reported 43 complaints about stunting and speeding in 2024 and 97 so far in 2025, which they said triggered the operation. A slight decrease in calls has been observed since the patrols began.
Airdrie Municipal Enforcement, in partnership with the RCMP, announced the initiative Sept. 5. The city said it is aimed at “addressing growing concerns around loud vehicles, speeding, and non-compliant vehicle equipment throughout the city.”
“Our goal is to reduce noise pollution, improve road safety, and ensure vehicles on our streets meet legal standards,” Brad Tomlinson, team leader of Municipal Enforcement, said in the release.
“We’re responding directly to community concerns and working collaboratively with the RCMP to make Airdrie safer and more livable.”
The city said enforcement teams are conducting strategic patrols and roadside inspections over the coming weeks to ensure compliance with municipal bylaws and provincial traffic legislation.
The operation includes noise testing using calibrated sound meters, speed enforcement in high-risk areas, inspection of vehicle modifications and equipment compliance, and public education and awareness efforts.
“This joint operation is a proactive step toward reducing dangerous driving behaviours and enhancing community safety,” Airdrie RCMP Staff Sgt. Chris Zanidean said in the release.
Traffic or noise complaints can be reported to Airdrie Municipal Enforcement’s 24-hour line at 403-948-8888 or the RCMP non-emergency line at 403-945-7267.
