The City of Airdrie is reminding residents that a ceremony dedicating the Veterans Memorial to those who have given military service is taking place on Saturday.

Residents are invited to attend the event and show their support for our local heroes.

The ceremony will run from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Veterans Boulevard Nautical flag pole near 8th Street.

"The Veterans Memorial, developed in collaboration with the Royal Canadian Legion #288 Airdrie and the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans in Canada (ANAVETS), features custom-designed artistic pieces inspired by the stories of local Veterans."

According to the city, it includes:

  • 22 metal banners mounted on light poles along Veterans Boulevard.
  • 30 metal railing panels along the sidewalk leading to the Veterans Boulevard pedestrian underpass.
  • Two artistic benches are on either side of the Veterans Boulevard pedestrian underpass.
  • Two life-sized silhouettes are located on the corners of Veterans and 8 St and Veterans and Main St.
  • One nautical flagpole is located near 8 St. along Veterans Boulevard.
  • Two painted sidewalks located by the Royal Canadian Legion #288, Airdrie and Field of Valour Park.

The City and Royal Canadian Legion #288 thank the Government of Alberta for supporting the development of the Veterans Memorial, and Veterans Affairs Canada for contributing to its dedication ceremony.

The city advises that parking will be limited and encourages attendees to walk, bike, or scooter to the event when possible.

The memorial was first unveiled back in July.
