Slow down, watch your speed and lift your foot off the gas...however you want to refer to it the speed limits have been officially reduced on the priority grain roads system in the Municipality of Rhineland.

"After giving third and final reading to the 70 kilometer speed reduction on our priority roads, our staff has now posted the appropriate signage along these roads," explained Reeve Don Wiebe. "The reduced speeds will help with road and bridge maintenance, and also help to reduce the road dust."

Wiebe noted RCMP is aware of the new speed zones, and will be assisting with enforcement.

Manitoba GRO fund projects identified

With the provincial government continuing the Manitoba GRO fund, the Municipality of Rhineland has identified several projects it will be submitting for funding consideration. The program will fund municipalities up to 50% of total eligible project costs.

In 2025, The provincial Gro Grant only allows the Municipal one application and one joint application with another Municipality.  As such the Council has directed Rhineland to apply for these two projects; Re-building of the road through our Ag Park West, and a joint application with Altona for a new pump truck for the Altona/Rhineland Fire department.

For 2025/26, funding of up to $42 million is being made available by the province, with Manitoba GRO available to all Manitoba municipalities outside Winnipeg.
