Agnes Seals (nee Kroeker)
May 3, 1927 – September 10, 2025
Peacefully in her sleep, our loving Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother passed away somewhat suddenly on September 10, 2025. Agnes was 98 years old.
She is survived by her daughter Eva, sons John and Tom, grandson Steven, great-granddaughter Aubrey and great-grandson Harrison. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Agnes was predeceased by her husband Mervin in 1986 and her daughter Valerae in 2013. She was the last surviving member of eight Kroeker children born to Peter and Katharina Kroeker.
Grandma was born in Altona in 1927 but lived nearby in Neuhoffnung in her early years. She was baptized in the Altona Bergthaler Mennonite Church. During the Second World War she worked in Winnipeg as a house maid. Later she worked in the paper bag factory with sisters Kay and Ann. She married Mervin in 1952 at Bethel Mission and together they raised four children as well as fostering several more over the years. All the while working part time at a number of cleaning jobs. She retired when Dad passed away but kept busy raising her grandson Steven as well as encouraging and guiding her children. Later, great-grandchildren joined her life and she was delighted to be part of their young lives. She adored Aubrey and Harrison.
Healthy much of her life, Grandma survived serious health problems in each of the last three summers but always made it back to her home. Since her discharge from hospital this summer she spent the last seven weeks enjoying her family, her home, home cooked meals, and sitting in the sunshine on her new wheelchair ramp. With limited mobility at first she was now standing and looking forward to using her walker again.
We are grateful to all of the home care aides and nurses who have cared for Grandma in her home these last years. Thanks also to caring staff in the hospitals who ensured that Grandma returned home after each visit. Even at 98 years of age we were not ready to lose Grandma, but we know that God sometimes has a different plan than we do. We will miss her dearly.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue with interment and reception to follow.
