With fall in full swing, the City of Humboldt is preparing for a number of community events and seasonal activities.
Communications Coordinator Angie Rolheiser joined us on the Bolt Breakfast and shared one of the highlights later this month is the Walk for Reconciliation, taking place September 28 at Civic Park.
“Meet around 10:45, walk begins at 11. That’s being held in partnership with the Westminster Church."
Looking into October, Rolheiser noted that the city is partnering with the Humboldt Regional Newcomer Centre to host cultural gatherings. “It’s called Steeped in Culture International Tea Parties, and that’s being held at the gallery,” she said, adding that the events will showcase cultural groups and activities.
While summer is winding down, some seasonal attractions are still open.
“The mini golf is open until the Thanksgiving weekend and same with the campground." She added that the Visitor Centre is open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., offering merchandise including hats, pins, magnets, and crew neck sweaters for “sweater weather.”
With hockey season underway, Rolheiser said there’s plenty of excitement for the Humboldt Broncos’ home opener this Saturday.
“We’re loving seeing those game day t-shirts around the community too. Love to see that people are embracing that and it should be a good night at the EPA."
Rolheiser also encouraged residents to download the Digital Humboldt app to stay informed.
“Not only can you find your events info on there, but we do sometimes send out notifications such as when there is a public hearing at an upcoming council meeting, road closures, water main break, water advisories. So, you can get that information delivered right to your phone."
The next regular council meeting is scheduled for Monday night and will include two public hearings.
Rolheiser also offered a glimpse into winter planning: “Everyone knows that the tree lighting will be coming up. We’ll have more details in the near future about that. And we’re also working on bringing back another annual Christmas event, but that’s where I’ll leave that.”
