A toddler died in a car crash at the intersection of Highway 9 and Highway 566.

According to Airdrie RCMP, the crash was at around 10 p.m. on Wednesday (Sept. 17) and was between a Dodge Ram pickup truck and a semi truck.

Police say the pickup was heading northbound when it struck the semi head on, leading to the pickup truck catching fire.

"The driver of the truck, a 36-year-old female resident of Hanna, and an 18-month-old female passenger, were declared deceased at the scene," wrote Airdrie RCMP. "Two other children were injured and were transported to a Calgary hospital."

The driver of the semi truck was not injured.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
