Brent Boulevard was filled with Strathmore students participating in the Marathon of Hope.
On Thursday (Sept. 18), Crowther Memorial Junior High School held its annual Terry Fox Run, with hundreds of students taking part.
Teacher and guidance counsellor Glenda Sorenson says the school has been taking part in the event for decades.
"My mom has battled and survived breast cancer twice," said Sorenson. "Cancer research is really important."
The school's leadership class had students come up with several ways to raise funds for the fun, including a popsicle fundraiser.
"It's just trying to encourage that spirit of giving. In the past, we've had students put on cookie sales, and we promote it in our homerooms."
The school has raised over $188,000 since starting the run, raising a total of $2,926.40 in 2024 alone.
"It's become such a part of our school community because it's a tradition. In the early years of the Terry Fox Run, we were a top fundraiser in Canada. We still consider a part of our school, our values, and what we consider to be important."
The official Terry Fox Run event, separate from the school runs, was cancelled in person last month, and participants took part online instead.
