The Humboldt Broncos grabbed their first win of the season Friday night 3-0 over the Warman Wolverines.

The game was Warman's first in the SJHL after their off-season move from Notre Dame (Wilcox).

The scoring started in the first period when Teigan Semchyshen scored off of a pass from Oakley McIlwain.

The score remained 1-0 in favour of Humboldt until late in the second period, when Jacob Strizzi caught a pass off the boards from Semchyshen and skated passed the Warman defender, tucking the puck into the net to give the visitors a two-goal advantage.

Strizzi would end the game with an empty net goal late in the third period, with Zach Bansley getting credited with an assist.

Broncos goaltender Charlie Tritt made 30 saves to pick up his first career SJHL shutout in his first game with the Broncos. Assistant Coach Carter Hansen says Tritt played a calm game and made some big saves when needed.

"I think we did a good job of limiting shots, I think they only had 18 after two periods, and we killed 10 penalties in those two periods," Hansen said. "I hope we made his night a little easier, but when we needed him most — especially when Warman made that push in the latter half of the third period — he was there standing tall every single time. "

Wolverines goaltender Griffin Wright made 37 saves in the loss.

The Broncos were penalized 12 times in the game, giving the Wolverines nine powerplays. Hansen says that has to get cleaned up.

"Discipline is a big part of what we're going to need to do with this team," Hansen said. "We're trying to play with a lot of pace, a lot of speed, we have to be rolling four lines. When you're killing (penalties) that much, you're only playing about six or eight guys, and that just kills all the flow."

The Broncos are back in action Saturday night as they host the Wolverines at Elgar Petersen Arena. Puck drop is at 7:30, our pre-game show begins at 7:15 on 107.5 Bolt FM.
