The City of Fort Saskatchewan has a contingency plan in place should things go awry in light of the current COVID-19 situation.
The city is working to manage the impact on programs and services amid staff shortages due to the Omicron variant.
For essential services such as emergency response, the city has a business continuity plan in place and assures the community's safety will not be compromised.
"The city is currently experiencing some absenteeism due to COVID, but our plans ensure our critical services can be maintained if staff shortages become prevalent," stated city manager Troy Fleming.
As of Jan.14, there are 435 active cases of COVID-19 in Fort Saskatchewan -- significantly higher than the peak of 175 cases in early October.
The city would also like to remind people of the current public health guidelines. The current mandatory AHS public health restrictions as of Dec. 21 include:
- Masking and 2 metres physical distancing are mandatory in all indoor public spaces, workplaces, and places of worship.
- For fully vaccinated people who have just completed the 5-day isolation and no longer have symptoms, masks must be worn at all times outside of the home for an additional five days.
- Employees must mask in all indoor work settings, except while alone in work stations.
- Masks are still required in places that implement the Restrictions Exemption Program.
- Masks should fit well and be of high quality. People at risk of severe outcomes should wear medical masks in settings with people outside of their household.
