In light of COVID-19 restrictions being lifted, the Lake of the Woods District Hospital has revised its visitation guidance.

In consultation with the Ontario government effective February 22, 2022, each patient will be allowed one designated visitor to visit. Visiting hours will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Designated visitors are those deemed essential to the emotional wellbeing, health, and quality of life of loved ones. In most cases, visitors should be a close family member and/or friend who have clearly established a pattern of involvement in providing care and support to the patient.

Those deemed a visitor must show proof of COVID-19 vaccination and ID and bring and wear a mask upon entering the hospital. Once screened at the main lobby each visitor will be given a sticker to wear while in the building.

All visits are to take place in the patient's room, and visitors must follow all social distancing rules while in the building.

Visitors in the Emergency Department are still restricted for the time being.

Restrictions towards visitors have been in place since December 22, 2021, following the City of Kenora declaring a Local State of Emergency.

To protect yourself and others from illness-causing germs, the hospital is asking people to follow these everyday precautions:

  • Stay home if you are sick.
  • Practice physical distancing.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Practice proper respiratory etiquette (covering your nose/mouth when coughing or sneezing).
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.
  • Avoid contact with people who are ill.
  • Seek medical care if required and disclose any recent travel history.
