After a rainy Thursday evening in many parts of Southern Manitoba, we’re heading into a very windy Friday, with southerly gusts up to 80 km/h in the Red River Valley and Southeastern parts of the province as that Colorado low moves northward through the province.
"Even with the southerly wind, we will see below-average temperatures today, in the 13 to 15 range, and that’s where we’ll be through at least Monday," explained CMOS Accredited Weathercaster Chris Sumner. "The normal daytime high for this time of year is 20, and the overnight low is around 6."
The following totals are from PembinaValleyOnline Rainwatchers, Environment Canada and the Manitoba Ag Weather Network:
Cartwright - 13.1mm
Gretna - 12.8mm
Clearwater - 11.9mm
Morris - 11.6mm
Altona - 11.1mm
Pilot Mound - 8.9mm
Elm Creek - 8.1mm
Carman - 7.5mm
Winkler - 7.2mm
Morden - 7.0mm
Emerson - 5.6mm
Manitou - 4.9mm
According to Sumner, looking ahead to the weekend, a cold front will spark shower activity for a good portion of Saturday, and gusty southwesterly winds will continue, a little less windy, but still up to 50 km/h.
"Accumulations Saturday are not expected to be significant, perhaps a few millimetres at most," he said.
Sumner noted, on Sunday, high pressure builds in from the north, as a trough develops over much of the Prairies, and that means a cooler air-mass moving in, and temperatures remaining chilly to start the week, but with sunshine.
"The long-range forecast models are showing a warm-up back to near seasonal starting Tuesday or Wednesday next week, but also early signs of a system potentially bringing more rain at some point Wednesday night to Thursday."
