As the water levels continue to decline and the lack of precipitation in the recent days the City of Kenora says that has allowed crews to continue work 500m north of Bells Point Road. The work will continue throughout the rest of the week, with timelines and updates coming in the next day or two.
On Friday (May 20, 2022), crews were able to open the East Melick and Essex road intersection and allow residents who live south of Portier Bridge (this includes Victoria Crescent, Decemvir Dr, Bell Point Road, and residents to the east of this area) were able to return to their property safely.
It is important to note that water is still flowing out of Black Sturgeon and into the Winnipeg River, however, it is predicted that water levels on Lake of the Woods will increase over the next five days and this could change water levels on the Winnipeg River at any time.
Sandbags continue to be available at Fire Station 1, 100 14th Street North. There is also sand available just down from the Fire Station on 14th Street North on the north side of the street near the Operations Centre.
The city notes that they continue to discuss and are evaluating where the next repair efforts will be focused. There are several factors that will contribute to that decision and they will continue to keep the public informed as the remedial work continues.
