With water levels high across the region, boaters are being reminded to be mindful of their wake.

The Lake of the Woods District Stewardship Association (LOWDSA) says natural shorelines are at most risk with the increased water levels.

The association points to the impacts wakes can have on shoreline nests, particularly those belonging to loons, and the erosion of shorelines.

"Erosion can escalate the amount of sediment entering the lake, this affects spawning grounds of a variety of fish and can damage waterfront properties. Wake can harm boat structure as well as docks, the movement of water will rock vessels against a solid dock causing damage," said LOWDSA in a social media post.

LOWDSA asks boaters to keep their top speed below 10km/h when within 30 metres of shore.
