It wasn’t the start that the Moose Jaw Miller Express was hoping for to open the 2022 Western Canadian Baseball League playoffs.
The Miller Express held their home opener on Friday night at Ross Wells Park, dropping a 3-2 decision to the Medicine Hat Mavericks.
Moose Jaw found themselves down 3-0 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning when Nate Mensik hit a two-run home run to get the Miller Express within one, but couldn’t find the tying run.
Saturday night at Ross Wells Park, the Miller Express got off to a quick start against the Maverick, but couldn’t hold on to the lead in a 13-8 loss.
Moose Jaw was up 1-0 after the second inning, but Medicine Hat scored three runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth inning and four in the seventh to make it 11-5 for the Maverick. It was a gap the Miller Express couldn’t make up.
Mensik went two-for-five at the plate with an RBI, while Bryan Reyes was two-for-four with an RBI.
The Miller Express rounded out the weekend in Medicine Hat on Sunday and dropped a 9-3 decision. Moose Jaw found themselves in a hole early, down 6-1 after three innings. The bats went silent for the next six innings as Moose Jaw could only muster up a pair of runs.
The Miller Express is back in action with back-to-back home games against the Weyburn Beavers on Tuesday and Wednesday at Ross Wells Park. The games get underway at 7:05 p.m.
