Kenora residents can enjoy our community’s downtown core and the artwork of local students to honour National Indigenous Peoples Day this week.

In a joint initiative between the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board and the Kenora Catholic District School Board, local students were able to submit artwork inspired by Indigenous culture that were then handed out and displayed at a variety of businesses on Main and Second Street.

The artwork will be displayed until June 24, if you don’t have time to enjoy it today.

National Indigenous Peoples Day events are taking place throughout the community, with a number of events hosted by the Kenora Chiefs Advisory, Grand Council Treaty #3 and the Ne-Chee Friendship Centre at their property at 371 Strecker Road. Events begin with a breakfast at 9 a.m. and run through a fish fry dinner at 5 p.m.

National Indigenous Peoples Day celebrates the culture and contributions of the First Nations, Inuit and Métis Indigenous peoples of Canada, and encourages Canadians to take a step forward on the path toward reconciliation. It takes place every June 21.
