Orys Marie Romaniuk
September 7, 1928 – July 11, 2022
It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Orys Marie Romaniuk on Monday July 11, 2022 after a brief illness.
She was predeceased by her Father, Emil, Her Mother, Olga, her sister Evelyn and her brother Arthur.
Orys had no children of her own, but her niece Daria Sprague and her nephew Terry Zurkan grew up with Orys in the family home. Orys was like a second mother to them.
Orys was blessed to have an extended family, her sister-in-law Nadia Romaniuk, cousin Connie Oshanski, her nephews Terry Zurkan (Joan), Phillip Romaniuk (Leslie), Myron Romaniuk (Paulette), Gregory Romaniuk (Tannis) and nieces Daria Sprague (Butch) and Lorissa Meisner (Bruce).
Orys was also blessed to have many great nieces and nephews, Mark Sprague, Jeremy Sprague, Melanie Chiappetta, Ian Sprague, Marin Brown, Quinn Suderman, Christina Carlson, Lucas Romaniuk, Steven Romaniuk, Kayla Johnson, Jennifer Meisner, Rylee Meisner, Keaton Romaniuk, Elizabeth Romaniuk, Matthew Sprague, Kaitlyn Sprague, Dallas Zurkan, Brandan Zurkan and Dalaney Smith.
Orys worked for the Ontario/Minnesota pulp and paper/Boise Cascade in the billing department for approximately 41 years until she took early retirement due to some health issues.
Although she was retired, she was very active in St. Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox church, which her father helped build. For many years, Orys was President of Olha Kobylanska women's organization. She was a member of the Prosvita Hall of Taras Shevchenko where she held several executive positions, an auditor, just one of those positions. Orys acted as the church treasurer and she was the choir leader in the church, and sometimes during the service sang solo when the other girls got lost. Orys truly enjoyed her Wednesday afternoons with the seniors from the hall as well.
Orys did some traveling in her life-time, but the highlight was her trip to Ukraine. Needless to say she was troubled by the current events taking place there now.
The family would like to thank Donna and Dwayne German for being there when Orys was sent to the hospital, and all their kindness. Also thank you to Brenda and Shaun Sundin for being such great neighbours to Orys and for their generosity and care. We would also like to thank Dr. Schneider, Dr. Drake and Dr. Kroeker and the 3rd floor nurses for their excellent care.
Pallbearers will be Steven Romaniuk, Phillip Romaniuk, Myron Romaniuk, Lucas Romaniuk, Greg Romaniuk and Jeremy Sprague.
Family and friends are welcome to a lunch and refreshments at Brown's funeral home after the service.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.brownfuneralhomekenora.com for the Romaniuk family.
