Erna Mandl
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother & great grandmother on July 14th, 2022.
Erna was born in Teublitz, Germany on June 8th, 1929 and just celebrated her 93rd birthday. She married Ted Mandl in 1951 and together they immigrated to Canada in 1955.
Through extremely hard work, they built their business from the ground up which included a restaurant, gas station, motel, gift shop & grocery store. Mom would often go blueberry picking at 6:00am before the restaurant opened just so she would have fresh blueberry pies for the day. Erna excelled at everything that she did. She was also an excellent seamstress and could sew anything without even using a pattern.
Erna was predeceased by her husband, Theodore (Ted) Mandl in 1995, her sister Francine in 2004 and her brother-in-law Max Schneider in 2005.
In later years, mom enjoyed her winters in Florida and going on cruises. She will also be missed by her Florida friends and especially her best friend, Ingrid Durhan.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her daughter, Sylvia (Altmann), son in law Bernie (Altmann), grandsons James (Vichit), Michael (Cassidy), and great-grandchildren Malin, Remi & Miller.
As per her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if one so desires, a donation to the LOTW District Hospital foundation is greatly appreciated.
A special thank you to Dr. Grek and Dr. Drake along with Charlene Melillo and the 2nd floor nurses at Lake of the Woods District Hospital for the outstanding care and compassion that they provided for mom.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.brownfuneralhomekenora.com for the Mandl family.
