It is with profound sadness to announce the sudden passing of our beloved, Juan Miguel (Migs) Tan on July 5th, 2022 at the age of 16, a life that was just beginning cut too short. Even though Juan was taken from us before his time, he lived his life to the fullest every single day.
Juan was born on August 3, 2005 in San Pablo City, Laguna, Philippines and moved to Kenora, Ontario in 2012. He started playing sports at a young age. When he moved to Canada, he always wanted to try playing hockey. Throughout the years, he played as a goalie for his house league and was given the opportunity to play for the school Saints team. When given the opportunity to play for the Saints team, he was ecstatic and would try to be the first person at practice. Juan loved and enjoyed his sports, particularly, volleyball. If he was not on the court playing, he would be seen assisting with the Jr. Girls’ Volleyball team as well as supporting the Grade 8 volleyball team at St. Thomas Aquinas High School. Juan’s quiet demeanour could not hide his love for the sport.
Juan worked a few jobs throughout the years. His first job was at Clarion Lakeside Inn as an events server. After working at Clarion, he then moved to the local grocery store as a produce clerk with some of his friends as co-workers. His last job was with the Godbout’s, which he enjoyed tremendously. He was a hardworking and reliable young man and could accomplish anything that he set his mind to while gladly helping the ones around him. He was happy and grateful that he learned a lot of interpersonal skills while working those jobs.
Juan loved the outdoor life in Kenora, always being out on the lake fishing with friends and exploring the outdoors during the summer. Juan and his buddies would always bike around town and explore new trails. During the winter times, he would be snowmobiling and ice fishing. He was always appreciative of the people around him that gave him the opportunity to experience these activities.
Juan was an amiable person. He was quiet but very welcoming to everyone regardless of their age and background. He was known for his quick wit and humour. Juan was a charmer with an infectious smile, and has a kind and compassionate spirit. Juan had an immense passion for life and brought people together and was always a positive source in whatever group he was in. He was responsible and always looked after his family and friends, making sure they are always safe. He loved them and talked about them with pride and joy. Anyone who knew Juan knew that he was a special soul.
Juan is loved by all of his family and friends and will be missed more than words can say.
Juan will be lovingly remembered by his mother, Geraldine; siblings Jan & Jian; family in the Philippines, Christopher, Katherine, Jacqueline, & Yvette; cousins, Leon Jim, Keith, Leon Cris, Leon Bien; as well as numerous loving relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his loving grandparents; Paulita & Leoncio.
