Who will you vote for in the October municipal election? If you don't know, the Portage and District Chamber of Commerce will help you out.
Next month, the Chamber will be hosting an election forum at Yellowquill School. Interim Chamber President Guy Moffat will be co-moderating the event along with Chris Tompkins. They have moderated the last few municipal forums.
"We are going to invite all of the candidates to come to the forum. They're going to have an opportunity to talk to us about what their platforms are," says Moffat. "They're also going to get a host of questions from the Chamber. So, what we do is, we take the time beforehand to talk to our members to find out what's important."
Moffat says there are a lot of issues that can be discussed including an immigration strategy, safety, the west-end beautification project and much more. Basically, if you have an issue that you'd like to see Portage's Mayor and Council talk about, you may get that chance.
"This is an opportunity to have everybody on stage. There will be an opportunity for questions from the audience as well, and we're going to have some prepared questions," says Moffat. "This is a great chance to see the candidates side-by-side, listen to them speak, listen to them build off of each other ideas, or debate each other ideas. This is going to be an opportunity for everybody in Portage to possibly get to know these candidates a little bit more before they go to cast their vote."
The event is scheduled for Wednesday, October 19th at 6:30 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m.
