The RCMP have confirmed one person is dead following a crash that occurred just before noon at the intersection of Highway 2A and Dickson Stevenson Trail, South of Crossfield.

According to the RCMP, an SUV turned northbound onto Highway 2A from Dickson Stevenson Trail when it was struck by a commercial vehicle that was travelling southbound on Highway 2A.

"The driver of the SUV, an adult male resident of Crossfield, was pronounced deceased on scene. An adult female resident of Crossfield was a passenger in the SUV. She was transported to the hospital and is in stable condition. The driver of the commercial vehicle was treated on the scene with no physical injuries," a release from the RCMP stated.

The intersection of Highway 2A and Dickson Stevenson Trail is now open to traffic as Airdrie Rural RCMP, EMS and the Crossfield Fire Department have cleared the scene. Earlier on Tuesday, emergency crews were on the scene and notified the public it was closed.

Drugs, alcohol, and road conditions are not believed to be factors in the collision. No further updates are anticipated.
