Ernest Richard Stroeder
October 31, 1936 – August 23, 2022
It is with great sadness that the family of Ernest Richard Stroeder announce his passing on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, in Brooks, Alberta. He was 85 years of age. Born October 31, 1936, to Fred and Margaret Stroeder, Ernie grew up on the farm near Marysburg, Saskatchewan. It was at a dance in Fulda that he met his beloved wife, Bernice Loessl, whom he married on October 16, 1961. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2021. Ernest began logging in B.C. in the winters and farming with his dad in the summers, however, his heart and passion were always on the farm. So, in 1965, they purchased a farm near Preeceville, SK and began to sow and harvest their future. They raised their family and stayed on the farm until 2006. From there they spent eleven years in Preeceville, until they moved to Ernest’s final home at a senior’s complex in Humboldt, SK. Ernest was known to family and friends as a hard-working, quiet, unassuming gentleman who was the first to lend a helping hand at a moment’s notice. He spoke infrequently, offering thoughtful advice and witty humor that was highly valued by those who loved him. When he wasn’t busy on the farm, he enjoyed fishing, visiting, dancing, hunting and playing cards. He never passed on an opportunity to be involved with farming or ride around the country to check on crops. Ernest delighted in spending time with his children, grandchildren, and family, all of whom he cherished. Ernest is survived by his wife, Bernice; son Dale (Olivia), grandchildren Desirae and Cole (Ines); son Murray (Coralea), grandchildren Shantelle (Mitch), Faith (Mat), and Summer; daughter Valerie, grandchildren Misheila and Jarid; daughter Wanda, grandchildren Corwyn, Terryl and Jinaye; sister Genevieve; and sisters-in-law Alice and Louise. He is preceded in death by his daughter Audrey and granddaughter Courtney. A Memorial Mass was held on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, in Humboldt SK at 1:00 p.m., officiated by Fr. Colin Roy. Others taking part were: Summer Stroeder, cross bearer; Jarid Kelsch and Desirae Stroeder, scripture readers; Corwyn Shomachuk, prayers of the faithful; Cole Stroeder, Shantelle Stroeder, Faith Rowland, Misheila Kelsch, Terryl Shomachuk and Jinaye Shomachuck, gift bearers. An honour guard was formed by the Knights of Columbus Members. Interment was at the St. Augustine Roman Catholic Cemetery, Humboldt SK. A memorial luncheon followed at the Bella Vista Inn in Humboldt, SK with Carol Hillis Becker giving the eulogy. Memorial donations may be directed to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, #26 – 1738 Quebec Avenue, Saskatoon, SK, S7K 1V9 or Canadian Cancer Society, # 2 – 630 45th St. W., Saskatoon, SK, S7L 5W9.
