Theresa June Shaw
1931 – 2022
It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of our wife, mother, nana and great-grandmother on Sunday, November 6, 2022 in Kenora, Ontario.
Mom was born in Kenora, on June 1, 1931 and attended the local Catholic School, as well as Kenora-Keewatin District High School. It was here that mom met, and then married Gordon, her high school sweetheart on March 15, 1950. Together, they celebrated the 72nd wedding anniversary, raised three children, and remained inseparable to the end.
Mom was predeceased by her mother Rose, her father Edward, her oldest son Gerry, her sister-in-law Lorna, and her brother-in-law Keith Myles. Mom is survived by her loving husband of 72 years Gordon, sons Terry (Patricia) and Dale (Vicki), and her daughter-in-law Netta (Thunder Bay). Nana will also be remembered by her grandchildren Jay, Gerry Jr. (Amanda), Gillian and Lindy, her great grandchildren Hailey and Owen, Sophie and Emma, Kaden, Kael, Camden, Ella and Valo.
Mom was a terrific athlete throughout her life, as well as an avid sports fan in her later years. She enjoyed playing fastball, golf, fishing, but especially enjoyed the game of curling. Mom was an energetic curler who enjoyed great success on the curling ice representing her club, her town, her region and her province on numerous occasions. She always said she was fortunate to have curled with some great teammates, who joined with her in success at curling locally, regionally, provincially and nationally. She enjoyed teaching curling to our youth and realized that they would be the future of the sport. Mom was elected to the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame in 1989. She was also elected in to the Kenora Sports Hall of Fame in 2017. Mom was very humbled by these awards and appreciated the honors. The curling world has lost a great competitor and a great curling fan.
Mom also enjoyed fishing on Lake of the Woods, but especially enjoyed the tranquil times spent with family and friends on the lake, appreciating what Mother Nature had created. Mom’s passion in her later years was golfing and enjoyed playing with new friends and sharing good times both on and off the course. She became very adept at locating lost balls, much to the chagrin of her playing partners.
Mom worked at the Kenora Rec Centre, the former Pat’s stationery, at numerous provincial and federal elections, as well as teaching swimming lessons to young children of Kenora. Mom was devoted to her family and her faith and was a member and president of Notre Dame Catholic Women’s League. Throughout her life, mom always put her family first, as well as instilling the Catholic faith to her family. She put her trust in God to keep her family safe, and added her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to her nightly prayers. Mom was also President of the Kenora Ladies Curling Club on numerous occasions, and enjoyed the challenges. Travelling was another passion for mom whether it was for curling, golfing or pleasure (Hawaii, Las Vegas), she always enjoyed new experiences, but always looked forward to returning home.
Mom was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother (Nana) and great-grandmother. She was very proud of her family and the many great memories they gave her over the years.

Special thanks to Dr. Spence, Dr. Scaife, Dr. Gayman, Dr. Wesley, Dr. Snyder, Dr. Drake, Char Melillo, Nurse Practitioner Alexis Peplinske and Cory at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, who’s help and guidance has been greatly appreciated.
At mom’s request, immediate cremation has taken place. A private Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.

Mom is no longer suffering and is
